Homer Street 1100 block, 1981
Just over thirty years before H-H was constructed, Homer Street was a very different place.

It was primarily composed of three to five story buildings with a brick finish and flat facade. These were considered to be the newer buildings. Some of the older houses were squished by two concrete walls on either side as development of the area started to pick up.

Across from H-H is a block of buildings still upholding this character including the McMaster Building and Smith, Davidson & Lecky Limited. To fit the building in, the designed used the same classic looking bricks on the street facing side of the town homes.

David Lam Park
H-H is located in the Yaletown neighborhood. The area used to be known as gritty and industrial with nothing but brick warehouses.

The neighborhood is know for its many restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops and historic buildings.

Within walking distance of H-H is brix restaurant and wine bar, O-cha Tea Bar, Choices Market and Circle Learning Incorporated. The convenience of these amenities allows typical errands to be completed without using a car.

It is easy to access the SkyTrain, Vancouver's subway and overhead rail system, that travel from practically one end of the Greater Vancouver District to the other. [1]

David Lam Park is is only a dew blocks away from H-H . There are many sports courts and playgrounds. Gardens and trees border the large central field that runs along False Creek.

The Seaside bike route runs through the park and so does the Seawall. [2]

H-H is a concrete building with a mixed exterior finishing and full rain screen. The style incorporates clean lines and bold brick townhouses that ties in the historic nature of the neighborhood to the new and modern building.

There aren't any buildings in Vancouver that don't use concrete in one form or another. The reason for this is that concrete and rebar steel reinforcing are the best material for British Columbia based on our humid climate and the seismic zone classification.

Vancouver falls right on the perimeter of the Juan de Fuca Plate. The plate is subducting under the western side of the North American Plate. The plate has formed the Cascade Range, the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the Pacific Range volcanic zones. The last mega earthquake was the 1700 Cascadia earthquake with and estimated magnitude from 8.7 to 9. [3]

Halogen light bulbs are incandescent lights with a small amount of a halogen added. The halogen and tungsten filament undergo a chemical reaction which redeposits the tungsten back onto the filament, therefore increasing the life span and also producing a higher luminous efficacy and color temperature. In other words, its more efficient and brighter.

The lamps get hotter than others due to the heat concentration around the filament and how close the surface is to the filament. This has been a fire concern. In places such as Australia, where the air is hot, it is suggested that compact florescent lamps or light emitting diode lamps be used because they produce less heat. [5]
