Built by Stonegate Development and designed by Hartshorne Plunkard, the Silver Tower is a condominium high-rise of the modernism architectural style. The tower is deemed to be a luxury residence in Chicago and features studio, one, two, and three bedroom condominium residences. The building was completed in 2010.
Located in the sought-after neighborhood of the River North district in Chicago, the Silver Tower is nearby shopping, parks, and transportation.
The River North District contains smaller, defined districts, like the 'River North Gallery District' - named after its many art galleries - or the 'Near River North District.'
The River North neighborhood of Chicago began as an industrial area, later becoming a warehouse district. Warehouses in the area closed down in the 1970s, leaving large, empty buildings that attracted another industry. Artists and writers looking for loft and studio spaces moved into the area, creating a district that was artistic but rustic.
River North is now known to be a chic location filled with art galleries, antique stores, boutiques and urban professionals, and also has the hightest concentration of restaurants.
Located at River North, the Silver Tower is within walking distance to all influences the area is known for; fine shopping, dining, art galleries and entertainment. Located just east of the river and west of the coast, on the North Side, River North offers a healthy dose of off-shore water.
River North District of Chicago is also well known for its furniture showrooms in the Merchandise Mart to the south. The Silver Tower is nearby public transportation, just steps away from the CTA metro system. The East Bank Club is just minutes away, as well as Ohio Street Dog Park and Ernie Park.
Many cafes, restaurants, schools, and shopping are all a quick walk away from the Silver Tower.
The construction of the Silver Tower, the modernist architectural style building, began in June of 2007 and was completed in 2010. The Silver Tower is a residential high-rise made of concrete. It has 39 floors and stands at 132.08 meters high. It has an exposed concrete facade system, with the majority of the exterior being made up of glass windows and glass balconies.
There is a concrete foundation and a wider base with no balconies for the lower levels of the building. An underground parking garage allows parking for 335 vehicles.
Layout and Features
The Silver Towers are said to be "posh, privileged and pampered," in reference to the high-end finishing and interior features of the residences. The Chicago Silver Tower resembles a high-end hotel more so then a residential high-rise condo tower.
Layouts include studio, one, two, and three bedroom condos. Over sized balconies and windows offer views of the City of Chicago and Lake Michigan.
Interiors feature floor-to-ceiling windows, solid core wood doors, painted mill-work, and prefinished oak hardwood flooring. Wall-to-wall carpeting and over sized private balconies or terraces are found in every floor plan.
The kitchens at the Silver Tower feature KitchedAid stainless steel appliances, gas range stoves, and under-the-counter dishwashers. Solid granite counter tops, stainless steel double sinks, European faucets, and maple or cherry cabinets complete the quality kitchens.
Marble is featured in the bathrooms, on the floors, showers, and counter tops.

The Silver Tower's most sustainable aspect is its proximity to public transportation. There are bus stops within one block on either side of the building.
The building also features double-pane floor-to-ceiling windows that let in a lot of light, but do not let heat escape, which keeps heating costs low and lost heat next to none.
Low-energy appliances, including in-suite laundry, are to the energy star ratings.
Deemed a "Failed Development" by some, Silver Tower has received some unkind words from its onlookers.
After pre-selling went incredibly sour for the developer, Bank of America took over the 82 unsold units, 130 parking spaces, and 2,000 square feet of retail in Silver Tower. This foreclosure is apparently due to the fault of the developer, Stonegate, who failed to pay back the Silver Tower debt.
Receivership went to Jameson, who put the unsold units back on the market for sale. After slashing the prices by 35 percent, Jameson managed to sell the remainder of the units.
